Humpback Whale Fluke Sticker

Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) are among the most majestic and enigmatic creatures of the ocean. These massive marine mammals are known for their captivating behaviors, including breaching, tail-slapping, and singing complex songs that can travel for miles through the water. In the summer, they can be found in cold, nutrient-rich feeding grounds, like Alaska, the North Pacific, the North Atlantic, and Antarctica. In the winter, they migrate up to 8000 kilometers (5000 miles) to warmer breeding grounds in Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. 

Individual whales can be tracked during these migrations and throughout their lifetime by using photos of their fluke, the whale's tail. Flukes are as unique to humpback whales as our own fingerprints! I designed this fluke after some of my favorite flukes I saw while cataloging humpback flukes in the University of Hawaii at Hilo Marine Mammal Lab.
