Manta Ray Sticker

Manta rays are the gentle giants of the reef. There are two species, the giant oceanic manta ray (Mobula birostris) and reef manta ray (Mobula alfredi). The giant oceanic manta has a wingspan of up to 7 meters (22 feet), and the reef manta has a wingspan of up to 5 meters (14 feet). The reef manta is more common in Hawaii, and can often be seen near shore, especially on the Kona coast of Hawaiʻi Island. 

Despite their massive size, they are harmless to humans! Mantas are filter feeders, and they feed on tiny plankton, fish eggs, and small fish by filtering them out of the water as they swim. You can see them do backflips and somersaults in plankton-rich waters as they feed.

Manta rays can be identified by the patterns on the underside of their bodies. Their pattern is as unique as a human fingerprint! This pattern can be used to identify individuals and track them over time.
